Bella leaned against Edward, resting her good hand on Edward's knee, and the injured one across her lap.
"You don't have to go to so much trouble for me, Edward. Besides, it's not that bad." Just as long as I don't move it and nothing disturbs it she finished in her head, glad once again, that Edward could not read her thoughts.
Bella didn't want him to go to any trouble for her. She'd already caused Edward and his family enough problems already. She didn't want to cause them any more, no matter how small. Or painful. She fought a wince.

Edward sighed sadly. He surely couldn't read her mind, but he grew better and better at reading facial expressions. Bella's emotions showed on her face like they were written with bold black sharpie. Trying to hide my pain read across her face now. If a vampire could cry, he'd be bawling. She didn't want to reveal how much she was in pain, he guessed, because she wanted to protect him, and let him keep thinking he was protecting her. Edward wanted so badly to just kill Rosalie. Not only did his crazed blonde sister hurt Bella physically, but the pain was creating an emotional barrier between he and Bella as well. He wished Bella would tell him the truth and spare what pain it would cause him; it definitely would cause pain, because he was supposed to be her protector, and one little slip left her broken and bruised. His little slips were happening more often now, no matter how he tried to prevent them. Her number was definitely up the moment she met him.
He let a slight frown play across his face, and darkened his golden eyes.
Then he stood up. "I think he may have a some sterile gauze and a brace from last time," he stated aloud, "I'll go ahead and get that. You stay put, love. I'll be back." He kissed her on the forehead, which was slightly clammy, and bounded up the stairs.

Bella looked at the frown on his face, but before she could say anything about it, he'd pressed his cool lips to her forhead, and gone up the stairs. She watched the stairs he had just vacated, then she sighed, and looked down at her arm. I wish these things would stop happening to me. Maybe then I would stop causing problems for the Cullens she thought, dismally, then looked back at the stairs. Perhaps when I'm a vampire, like them, I won't be such a problem she thought, a slight smile comming to her face.

Edward dashed into the upstairs bathroom. He threw open the medicine cabinet door, sending it rattling against the bathroom wall. He rummaged around roughly, searching for any gauze or large band-aid, and the extra brace Carlisle placed in there "just in case". He quickly found what he came for; he put it under his arm, grabbed some Neosporin, and headed back down the stairs.
Bella was sitting calmly on the couch, and a small smile was even spread across her pale face. She was clearly cooking something up in that overworking mind of hers. One side of his lips pulled over, making a half-smile. He plopped down beside Bella and set to work. When he was finally finished, he felt satisfied that he did a good job caring for her. Not as good as Carlisle, granted, but good enough. He would have to take her to the hospital sometime soon for extra care.
He smoothed Bella's brown hair softly, and smiled.

Bella watched him as Edward went about bandaging and caring for her arm. She kept smiling, but for another reason other than wanting to become a vampire. Her smile was for the tenderness and love Edward was showing for her, by doing this, and acting the way he was. She felt that it was much more than she deserved, but still she wanted it.
When Edward was done, Bella smiled at him, and leaned her head against his hand, as he smoothed her hair gently. "Thankyou."

"You're more than welcome, love. Do you feel better?" Edward still noticed in her eyes that she was hiding something. And that something obviously mattered to her a lot; he wanted so badly to know what she was thinking.

"Yes," Bella smiled. She looked from Edward to her hand, and back at Edward.

Edward leaned his head down a little, and lifted her chin up. "What are you thinking about? I can tell that something's swirling around in that mind of yours." he whispered lowly, as he stared into her endless brown eyes.

Bella couldn't look away from Edward's eyes, and she wondered wether or not she should tell him what she was thinking. She knew he didn't want her to become a vampire, to risk her soul, but there was nothing for it anymore. She was going to become a vampire and spend eternity with Edward, no matter how hard she had to fight to do it.
But she also didn't like lying to Edward. She had in the past, and would if she had to, but it didn't mean that she liked doing it. She sighed, and closed her eyes.
"It's just that...once I'm a vampire, I won't be such a problem to you and your family, is all. I won't weigh you down, or burden you with things like flesh wounds."

Edward's chin dropped, and he sighed, looking to the side. "Bella... you know why I think you should stay human. If I could go back human, I would. But I won't risk your soul for you to become like me." He said, emotionally. "We can will still be together, no matter if we're different beings." He looked into her eyes, trying to make her understand; he placed his hands on either side of her face. "I'm a horrible, depicable creature that should not exist. You don't want to be like me." He looked down, choking up. He swung his head left to right, eyes closed.

Bella put her good hand on the side of his face to keep Edward from swinging his head back and forth. She looked at him, willing for Edward to open his eyes so she could look into them.
"I want to be just like you, so that I can spend eternity with you." Bella studied his face, the paleness of his skin. How perfect he was. "I don't beleive that my soul will be risked by you turning me, just like I beleive that you and everyone else in your family has not lost theirs."

Edward looked into her eyes, straight on. He whispered, "That's only a matter of opinion." His golden eyes shadowed to a dark ocher. "Why would a monster have any need for a soul?"

Bella moved her face closer to Edwards, so as to add emphasis to her words. "Because you are not a monster, Edward," she said, quietly yet forcefully.

The edges of Edward's lips turned slightly down, and his eyebrows smashed together. Edward knew he was a monster; there was nothing else anyone could name him as. He surely wasn't human, like his perfect Bella. Vampires were created for destruction, pain and eternal hell, not to be loved by a gentle human girl. He shook his head minutely, side to side, in disagreement. "No." he whispered.

"How could a monster care for me the way that you do?" she said, quietly, looking straight at him.
