Callie sat on the cool grass, amidst the sunshine and under a canopy of oaks. There was absolutely no one at the park, except for her, Kit, and a few pastel butterflies. Sighing in happiness, she laid back against the ground and watched the fluffy clouds floating in the cerulean sky. "Look, Kit, its you!" she pointed toward the sky, but Kit took no notice. He suddenly only got up from his business of swatting flower blossoms and bounded away. She sat up. "Kit! Where are you going?" she laughed. Getting up, she brushed the grass from her lavender dress and chased after her kitty, who continued down the gravel path.

Bella was walking down one of the paths in the park, counting on the nice atmosphere of the place to lift her mood. It had already begun to work, at least alittle, since when she had left the school, she'd been in a deeply foul mood, and now she was only in a semi-foul mood, most of which disapated when she spotted a small orange cat running down the path towards her. A smile stretched across Bella's face, as she bent down and held out her hand to it. "Hey there, little fella," she said to it, softly, as the cat crepy closer, and sniffed her fingers.

Kit decided she was a safe enugh human, and began the purr as he rubbed his head on the girl's hand. Then suddenly Callie ran out from behind the overgrowth of blackberries and called Kit's name loudly for the millionth time. Stopping, she saw that he found a new curiosity to check out: a girl about her own age. And he appeared to have taken a liking to her. She stepped closer in hopes of not startling the girl or her jumpy cat.

Bella looked up, and smiled at the approaching girl. "He yours?" she asked, as she scratched behind the cats ears.
Bella had always liked cats, but neither Renee nor Charlie allowed her to have pets. Wether it was because they didn't like animals, or if they were trying to make her life miserable, she would never know.
She looked down at the small orange cat, and smiled at him. "He sure is a sweet little thing, isn't he?"

"Don't let his seemingly-charming nature deceive you." Callie said with a laugh. As if to prove her right, Kit suddenly reached up a paw and dug it into Bella's palm. After slicing through the thin skin of her hand, he turned around, tail in the air, and stalked off to Callie. Callie disapprovingly reprimanded Kit for his ill-mannered behavior. Oblivious to his punishment, Kit turned and continued stubbornly and robotically continued down the path. "I'm so sorry about his behavior." Callie apologized.

Bella chuckled softly, and stood up straight, holding her palm open. She waved her hand, and shook her head. "Don't worry about it. I've had worse dont to me."
As the blood started to slow, it dried quickly, and stopped. Bella whiped the palm of her hand on the side of her jeans, and dropped it to her side. She held her hand out to the girl, feeling the need to be strangely formal somehow. "I'm Bella," she said, smiling warmly at her.

Callie smiled warmly in return. "I'm Callie, and that stubborn orange creature is Kit." she said with a thumb pointing backward over her shoulder. Callie put her hand in Bella's and they shook hands. An idea suddenly came to Callie's mind. "Hey, do you happen to be the Bella, the Bella who hangs out with the Cullens?" she asked, not bothering to mask the intense curiosity in her voice.

It took all of Bella's self control not to hide her left hand behind her back, so as to mask the ring on her finger. But she couldn't stop the red tinge from rising to her cheeks. "So you've heard of me?" she asked. She clenched and unclenched her hands, still fighting the urge to cover that ring. No, I can't she chided herself. If I'm going to be the future Mrs Cullen, then I need to get over this ridiculousness. I can't hide my hand forever.

Callie noticed at once the change in Bella's mood. "I-I just wanted to... er... congratulate you." Callie stuttered, feeling very awkward. Bella's cheeks turned very red, as if she didn't want the touchy subject brought up. Callie stared at the ground.

Bella smiled. "Thanks." She was quiet for a moment, suddenly unsure of what to say. She saw Callie's awkwardness, and suddenly regretted her embarassmend. What is wrong with me? she wondered to herself. "So are you new around here? I don't think I've seen you before...then again, a 'danger magnet' like me usually doesn't wander around by herself," Bella said, using Edward's nickname that described her horribly bad luck.

There was a moment of silence, then Bella broke it. "So are you new around here? I don't think I've seen you before...then again, a 'danger magnet' like me usually doesn't wander around by herself," Bella asked. Callie giggled. "Yeah, I'm new... well sort of. My mother moved here to Forks a year ago, while I stayed with my grandma and finished my junior year of high school. Once summer began I moved out here, to this absolutely beautiful place." She smiled, then continued. "So I've been living with her since I came, but now I'm moving into my own home. You probably know the place... a cute little house a couple miles from the Cullens'. Anyways, yeah. That's my story."

Bella smiled and nodded. "Yeah I know the place. It's a really cute house, I'm sure you'll love living there." She was quiet for a moment. "I lived with my mom, Renee, in Arizona when my parents split, and my dad, Charlie came to live here. I moved to live with him a couple of years ago, and I've been here ever since."

Callie was silent for a moment. "I'm sorry about your parents." she said sympathetically. "Oh my gosh! Where's Kit?" she began turning her head to the left and right frantically, then stepped over to the bushes to peer inside, and continued to run around. "Kit!!! Where are you?" Callie had forgotten all about her dear kitten.

Edward was walking down the sidewalk, enjoying the sunless day, when he heard a frantic yelling. He didn't recognize the voice or scent. Then, to his left, behind a clump of yellow daffodils, there was a small orange furball hissing at him. He growled under his breath, and the ball of fur bolted down the sidewalk, toward the sound of the previous yelling. He ran lightning-quick toward them, and stopped just before he reached them. He took an instinctive breath, and instantly recognized Bella, next to the mysterious screaming girl, who happened to have the monstrous ball of orange in her arms, kissing him all over his whiskery face. He chuckled at the sight.

Callie's eyes began to tear as she was brought to the realization that maybe Kit was lost, or worse. Suddenly, Kit came flying down the path, like he was running from a monster. Kit raced over to Callie, jumped up into her arms, and hid his tangerine face in the crook of her elbow. Callie began kissing his whiskery face, so happy and relieved that he wasn't gone. Then she looked up only to see the infamous Edward Cullen, stepping out from behind a tree, apparently laughing at some inside joke. Kit dug his sharp little claws into Callie's bare arm, and Callie yelped. "Kit, stop." she whispered loudly to him.
